The tenth commandment admonishes us not to crave what others have. Jesus teaches this in several ways including reminding us that our lives do not consist of what we possess. St. Paul countered his own tendency to want more by learning to be content with what he had even when he lacked food. He was able to do that “and to do all things through Christ who strengthened him.” But we live in a society where gasoline is poured on the kindling of our desires by constant advertisements.
