Earth Stewardship
The Earth Stewardship program at First Church implements activities which increase understanding and encourage conservative use of natural resources. Our main activities comprise the Clean Green Car Show, Earth Day celebrations, participation in the International Beach Clean-up, and alternative gifts (donations to environmental causes.) We welcome anyone to join us who believes as we do that God has entrusted his creation to us to protect for future generations.
Earth Stewardship News
Beavers Sign Up to Fight Climate Change
Beavers are back in demand for their
engineering and dam-building skills.
During periods of drought, wetlands
hold much more water when beavers
are present. Washington State plans
to reintroduce beavers to 10,000 miles
of suitable habitat. This would help
retain 650 trillion gallons of spring
runoff at a small fraction of the cost of
building conventional dams. If this pilot
program is successful, our bucktoothed
furry friends will join the ranks
of nature’s conservationists.
